Spirit of Llanfair PG

£8.10

This sampler, which features the Welsh alphabet, was inspired by the traditional love spoons of the principality – llwyau caru.- and is named after the village of:
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwilllantysiliogogogoch
on the Island of Anglesey. The name means “The church of St Mary in the hollow of the white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St Tysillio’s of the red cave” and is affectionately known as Llanfair PG by the locals. It’s the longest place name going unless you know different.

These beautiful spoons were carved by young men as a token of love for their intended hence the recurrent heart and horseshoe symbols so often incorporated in the designs. They varied in length from a modest 8cm to a full meter on occasion but you know what they say – size isn’t everything not even with love spoons.

Pleser i gwhio, a pleasure to stitch.
